Henry Street Settlement opens doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social service, arts, and health care programs.
Support Henry Street’s Domestic Violence Survivors Shelter
Nearly one-quarter of all women and nearly 1 in 7 men will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes.
Henry Street Settlement’s five Transitional and Supportive Housing programs offer holistic and empowering services for New York City’s homeless individuals and families. Residents in each setting receive a range of supports to ensure their long-term success and stability during and after their time in shelter. Among these programs is our Domestic Violence Survivors Shelter, which provides safe refuge and onsite social services for 26 survivors and their children—providing them with core supports to stabilize their lives and the lives of their families, heal from trauma, create safety plans, and relocate to permanent independent housing. Services include:
- 24-hour case management
- Connections to legal services
- Mental health, employment, and financial counseling
- Help securing permanent housing
- Connections to high-quality educational programs for children.
- Aftercare, for stability and support for up to two years following the transition into permanent housing.
Henry Street also works throughout the community to build domestic violence awareness through advocacy, trainings, and public programming.
Founded in 1893 by progressive humanitarian Lillian Wald, Henry Street Settlement opens doors of opportunity to enrich lives and enhance human progress for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social service, arts, and health care programs. Each year, we reach more than 50,000 New Yorkers through programs at 18 sites across the Lower East Side and through afterschool, mental health, and arts programming in dozens of public schools.
