Wrapping Up The Year With Our Volunteers

Henry Street is extremely grateful to the 240 volunteers, donating 893 hours of their time, and hailing from 11 different partners, bringing holiday joy and cheer to seven different programs. Thank you so much to several members of our Board, and our partners, Allen & Overy LLP, Credit Suisse, CME Group, Fir Tree Partners, JP Morgan Chase, Hill + Knowlton Strategies, Macy’s, and Morgan Stanley. We are also grateful to our in-kind partners American Express, Banana Republic, CME Group, Corporation Service Company (CSC Global), Deloitte, Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies, Mizuho, NYC Mamas Give Back, The Today Show, and Seven Harbour for various coat and toy drives benefitting clients across the Settlement, and ensuring everyone had a brighter holiday.
After School
After School services at Henry Street Settlement provide a safe, engaging learning environment for over 500 students every week. We are honored to have Allen & Overy, CME Group, Credit Suisse and Mizuho celebrate the holidays with our After School children. Highlights from these holiday parties include surprise visits from Santa Claus, gingerbread house making, story time, holiday masterpiece crafts and a holiday themed carnival. Special thanks to American Express, CME Group, CSC Global, Mizuho, the Today Show, and Seven Harbour for organizing wonderful toy and gift drives for these wonderful children.
Daycare
Henry Street Settlement’s daycare provides early childhood education for children ages 2 to pre-kindergarten. Hill + Knowlton Strategies, and Macy’s all brought volunteers and holiday goodies to share with our daycare children. Santa even dropped by to distribute gifts! Highlights from these volunteer events included holiday arts and crafts, and story reading. These holiday traditions are an annual favorite for Henry Street, and for the daycare children, and we look forward to them every year.
Senior Services
Good Companions Senior Center provides hot meals, and a place to socialize for the senior residents of Lower East Side. Fir Tree Partners hosted a wonderful holiday party for 128 seniors. Click here for more on this rockin’ holiday party »
Transitional and Supportive Housing
Transitional and Supportive Housing at Henry Street provide a place for clients to call home while also offering them quality, on-site comprehensive social services. We are so thankful to the dedicated volunteers from Credit Suisse, JP Morgan Chase and several members of our board who celebrated the holidays with our clients in our Transitional and Supportive Housing. Credit Suisse’s annual Home for the Holidays is always a favorite, decorating the Urban Family Center (UFC) for the holiday season and treating the children to holiday goodies, crafts and photos with Santa. The annual holiday party hosted by board member Sebastian Echavarria and wife Natalia Gottret Echavarria was a festive party for the residents of Helen’s House, featuring a magician and a surprise visit from Santa! Lovely volunteers from JP Morgan Chase came to the Work Employment Program at UFC for a holiday party to celebrate the accomplishments of the clients in that program. Thank you all for making the holidays so much for special!
Special thanks to our Outstanding In-Kind Partners!
American Express donated a seven foot bear and a television among other gifts. The bear brightened the holiday season for clients and staff alike, and the television went to the Good Companions Senior Center. Thank you!
Banana Republic went above and beyond, answering 100 “Dear Santa” letters penned by the clients of the Parent Resource Center, a program of the Neighborhood Resource Center. With Banana Republic’s help, these families had a Christmas to remember!
Seven Harbour adopted the children in the After School program of 301 Henry Street, answering their “Dear Santa” letters, and thereby ensuring everyone had a holiday gift to celebrate the season.
Morgan Stanley volunteers who were managed by New York Cares packaged 400 school kits for the students in our after-school programs. Thanks to them our students are able to start the new semester right with new supplies.
