Henry Street Senior Center’s Fall Heritage Festival was ablaze in color as seniors – dressed in festive costumes reflecting their ethnic heritage — partied beneath a canopy of colorful international flags. The festival, held on Tuesday in a Vladeck Houses courtyard, attracted hundreds of seniors and featured live mariachi music, a talent contest, dancing, raffles and take-home dinners donated by Whole Foods Market. The seniors also enjoyed the Lady Liberty hats they all received.
Representatives from the offices of New York State Senator Daniel Squadron, New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and New York City Public Advocate Letitia James stopped by the festival.
The Settlement extends a special thank you to long-time Henry Street volunteer Christian Capasso of Summit Rock Advisors, pictured above, whose contribution of time and donation of funds helped to make the Fall Heritage Festival a rousing success.
