Senior Companion Program Spring 2013 Recognition Ceremony
By Henry Street Settlement
Borough President Scott Stringer was among the well-wishers at the Spring 2013 Senior Companion Recognition Ceremony held on June 7, where 112 Senior Companions and their supervisors were honored.
Speakers included Henry Streeters David Garza, Executive Director; Diane Rubin, Chief Program Officer; Janet Fischer, Chief Administrator of Senior Services; and Debby Lowenstein, Senior Companion Program Director. Service awards were presented, and the attendees were treated to brunch, a raffle for Mets tickets and gift bags.
The table decorations were made by children in Henry Street’s day care program. Donations to the event were received from Starbucks (103rd Street location), Citibank and Jewish Home Lifecare, where the event was held.
The Senior Companion Program pairs healthy older adults with homebound or isolated fellow seniors to promote independent living. Senior Companions provide services which include friendly visiting, shopping assistance, escort to medical appointments and community activities, and help them obtain services like Meals on Wheels, and most importantly friendship and companionship.
The Senior Companion Program serves New York City’s five boroughs.
