128 seniors from Henry Street Settlement’s Good Companions Senior Center kicked off the holiday season with a spectacular party thanks to the generosity of Fir Tree Partners, a New York based private investment firm and continued generous supporter of the Settlement.
Seniors were treated to a three-course dinner and specialty seasonal “mocktails.” The evening included live entertainment by professional tango and Latin dancers, as well as music from DJ Mambo, who kept the dance floor packed with both seniors and Fir Tree employees.
David Garza, Henry Street Settlement’s Executive Director, who greeted the packed room of partygoers, thanked Fir Tree. “They give us something incredibly important, more important than their time and money. They put their heart behind everything they do,” he said.
Fir Tree Partners first came to Henry Street four years ago as volunteers, and has since committed to serving as a dedicated partner organization. During that time, they donated a new computer lab with computer instructor’s salary to the Good Companions Senior Center, replaced the gym floors at 301 Henry Street, hosted several memorable holiday parties for Henry Street clients. Jeff Tannenbaum, President and founder of Fir Tree, also established the Bernard Tannenbaum Memorial Scholarship, which provides tuition assistance for college-bound Henry Street youth. Fir Tree Partners was honored with a Corporate Leadership Award in 2014 at Henry Street’s annual Gala Dinner Dance.
