By Henry Street Settlement
Kristin Hertel, LCSW, has been appointed Deputy Program Officer of Health and Wellness at Henry Street Settlement, a nonprofit organization that provides social service, arts and health care programs to residents of the Lower East Side and other New Yorkers.
Hertel, who first joined the Settlement 23 years ago, was most recently Clinical Director of the Behavioral Health Division. In previous positions at Henry Street, she has served as the Director of Outpatient Services, Director of Intake, and Co-Coordinator of the Psychiatric Day Treatment Program.
She received her master’s degree in social work from the Technical University of Berlin (Germany), and her postmaster’s degree in advanced clinical social work from Hunter College School of Social Work in New York. As Deputy Program Officer of Health and Wellness, Hertel oversees Henry Street’s Community Consultation Center mental health services including Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS Express), the Health Unlimited Family Medical Center, a vocational training program, a supportive housing program, and the Neighborhood Resource Center (including the Parent Center, benefits screenings and enrollments, and legal and financial counseling).
“Because of Kristin’s record of accomplishment at the Settlement, she is well-positioned to lead this important service area of Henry Street,” said David Garza, Executive Director of Henry Street.
