Jobs Plus Moves Back To Avenue D
By Chelsea Jupin
Balloons, refreshments, raffles, meetings with employers and more marked the grand reopening of the Jobs Plus office at 24 Avenue D. The celebration was held Friday, August 28th. The office had been temporarily relocated to the Boys & Girls Republic for several months during a major renovation.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate the reopening of Jobs Plus on Avenue D. This program is exceptionally meaningful for us on many levels,” said David Garza, Executive Director of Henry Street. “It aligns directly with our mission of opening doors of opportunity; it’s a place-based program designed to help the residents that live in the development, similar to the historic characteristics of our Settlement beginnings; it brings together critical comprehensive services around employment, education and support services, all of which are what it takes to do this work effectively and help move people to self-sufficiency.”
Garza thanked the staff of Jobs Plus, many of whom were on hand to celebrate the reopening. “I particularly want to acknowledge the entire team that works on Jobs Plus for being flexible and resilient, and for continuing their hard work every day during this transition. I also want to thank the Henry Street Settlement Board of Directors and all the supporters for their efforts that allowed us to move the program back to its home on Avenue D.”
Jobs Plus offers employment and education services free to residents of the Jacob Riis and Lillian Wald Houses. The program offers job placement assistance, GED classes, free tax prep and more.
