They say it takes a village to raise a child — at Henry Street Settlement we believe it takes a neighborhood. The Settlement’s Expanded Horizons program, which operates a satellite college access program at the Henry Street School for International Studies (HSSIS), recently hosted a Career Day for students in grades 6-12.
Shohreh Tolou, Expanded Horizons College Counselor, organized the event with help from Dream Director of The Future Project Sarah Zapillar, to showcase a wide range of potential career paths. Shohreh went above and beyond to ensure that every student was able to meet with professionals working in their desired field.
The event featured 28 panelists working in professions such as culinary arts, education, music, law enforcement and more. Prior to the event, students ranked their top professions and were sorted into a schedule of three sessions for the day.
Sessions included an introduction from each working professional, and an open Q&A period. Several Henry Street staff members participated as panelists including Raana Kashi, Director of Adolescent Educational Services.
