Getting the Lower East Side Enrolled
By Henry Street Settlement
Henry Street Settlement partnered with New York City Council Members Margaret Chin, Corey Johnson, and Rosie Mendez to present a public Healthcare Enrollment Info Session at the Boys & Girls Republic on Wednesday, January 14. Council Members Johnson and Mendez opened the event by welcoming the community, explaining that they were proudly crossing their opposite sides of Manhattan — Council Member Mendez represents District 2 on the Lower East Side (including the Boys & Girls Republic), while Council Member Johnson represents the west side, from the West Village to Hell’s Kitchen) — to bring all New Yorkers together for this important opportunity. Council Member Johnson also chairs the City Council’s Health Committee.
Henry Street Settlement was represented by staff members Jeremy Reiss, Deputy Development Officer, Public Policy and External Relations; Ashley Young, L.C.S.W., Program Director of the Settlement’s Neighborhood Resource Center; and Annelise MacLeod, Health Care Navigator and Application Counselor at Workforce Development Center. MacLeod led the audience through the different plans available through the Affordable Care Act, and explained the differences and changes that enrollees could expect after selecting the best plan for them.
Henry Street Settlement’s Certified Health Care Navigator and Application Counselors are available during the open enrollment period for Qualified Health Plans, through February 15, 2015. Henry Street’s Health Insurance Enrollment Program certified staff can explain the different types of coverage available from NY State of Health, The Official Health Plan Marketplace; answer questions about benefits, tax credits and cost-sharing reductions; help you enroll in public and private plans offered through the Marketplace; determine if you qualify for a financial subsidy for private insurance. They can also help you enroll year-round in Medicaid and Expanded Medicaid, as well as Child Health Plus.
