David Garza, Executive Director of Henry Street, was honored at the Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) 35th anniversary celebration on June 20th. The event, held at the Bath House studio, celebrated the work of the neighborhood housing and preservation organization, which has served the Lower East Side of Manhattan since 1977.
Garza was introduced by Christine Koenig, project coordinator for Henry Street-Project Hope, who said, “GOLES is honoring David tonight for his commitment to their long-term partnership, his passion for workforce issues that led to the creation of the LES Employment Network to leverage job opportunities and his collaborative spirit and generosity.”
Responding with his signature custom rap – performed to great applause – Garza thanked GOLES Executive Director Damaris Reyes and GOLES Board Chairperson JoAnn Wypijewski.
Other honorees included Mike Pratt, President and Executive Director of the Scherman Foundation; Beverly-Xaviera Watkins of the Weill Cornell Medical College; and the Alfred E. Smith Residents Association.
