Henry Street Settlement opens doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social service, arts, and health care programs.
Living in Place is a Henry Street mental health counseling program that provides free home-visiting service for adults over age 55 living with serious mental illness. This program addresses social barriers specific to this population, such as economic instability, disengagement from social activities, lack of access to or use of medical care, and lack of access to nutritional foods, which can accelerate the aging process, jeopardize the ability to age in place, and reduce overall life expectancy. The Living in Place team will provide comprehensive and flexible critical time interventions (for a maximum of six-months) delivered in a person’s home or potentially in the community, based on specific preferences and need.
TO BE ELIGIBLE, YOU MUST BE:
- 55 and older
- Have documented diagnosis of a serious mental illness
- Recent clinical documentation required
- A resident of Manhattan
