Henry Street Settlement opens doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social service, arts, and health care programs.
The Settlement’s Urban Family Center programs are located in the New York City Housing Authority complex known as Lavanberg Houses. Located on the Lower East Side, it was constructed in 1927.
The complex consists of six buildings constructed of masonry and steel. Each building is a six-story walk-up with a basement level. There are one, two and three bedroom apartments, as well as available space for community meetings, vocational and educational services, program participation, private consultation and administrative offices.
Nearby is the Urban Family Center School, located in the New York City Housing Authority’s Baruch Houses, a complex that was a part of New York City’s planned urban renewal project during the 1960s.
