Making Hidden Histories Public Again June 4

Hidden Histories of the Lower East Side: Sephardic Jewish Food Traditions – a free public program with food tastings – will be held on June 4th from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Settlement’s historic headquarters at 267 Henry Street. The event will feature a complimentary bumuelos tasting and a conversation with Sarah Lohman and Jessica Underwood Varma.
The event is free, but RSVP is required.
Sarah Lohman is a culinary historian and the author of Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine. Jessica Underwood Varma is Education Associate for Costumed Interpretation at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum.
The Hidden Immigrant Histories series is part of the Settlement’s 125th birthday celebration. The series opened in April to a packed audience with a look and taste of the history of the Lower East Side’s South Asian communities.
