Henry Street Settlement opens doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social service, arts, and health care programs.
UPS Community Internship Program
For over 40 years the Community Internship Program (CIP) has brought upper-level UPS managers to New York, where they are immersed in the urban environment of the Lower East Side — one of the most economically and ethnically diverse communities in the country. The goal is to create a greater sensitivity to the social effects of poverty, as well as ideas for building job opportunities for low-income residents living in their home communities. During their internships, the managers work in one of the agency’s programs.
The relationships built with CIP interns have a profound effect on clients; the training and mentoring they receive builds confidence, as well as practical skills for attaining and retaining employment.
